The Military Table is a striking example of Gerrit Rietveld’s experimental design approach, where innovative forms, thoughtful use of materials, and a clear construction take center stage. As part of the Military series, the table is defined by its square crossbars, with the ends painted in a contrasting color. 
Rietveld created the Military series for the Catholic Military Home in Utrecht. For these pieces, he moved away from traditional wooden dowels for the first time, opting for clearly visible bolts and nuts — a choice that made the furniture exceptionally strong and durable.
