The CH621 swivel chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1948 and is the first swivel chair in the Carl Hansen & Søn collection. The CH621 is ideal for the home office and features an ergonomic, industrial frame made of brushed stainless steel on five stainless steel and rubber (TPE) casters, as well as a seat, armrests, and backrest made of FSC™-certified oak, which can be upholstered in either leather or fabric.

The Home Office Redefined
With its almost ballet-like posture, the CH621 swivel chair strikes an elegant balance between precise ergonomics and modern aesthetics.   During his prolific career, Hans J. Wegner designed over 500 chairs, only a few of which were swivel chairs, making the CH621 a rare and coveted collector’s item. In addition to his deep appreciation for wood and traditional joinery, which shaped his early designs, Wegner also loved working with metal and sought ways to seamlessly integrate organic and inorganic materials into his sculptural, organic designs.   Designed in 1948, the CH621 swivel chair exudes a contemporary aesthetic that makes one forget its 75-year history since its launch. As one of the first mid-century Danish designers to recognize the importance of ergonomics, Wegner collaborated with doctors and physiologists at the University of Copenhagen to determine the ideal sitting posture and lumbar support for maximum comfort.   The chair, reissued by Carl Hansen & Søn, features a sleek, industrial-style frame made of brushed stainless steel, combined with a padded seat, backrest, and armrests crafted from FSC™-certified oak. The height is adjustable via a modern gas spring and lever mechanism, and it offers flexibility on five casters instead of the original four to meet modern requirements.
