Poltronova Armchair MIES

A wedding present to one member of the group from the other Archizoom’s members. This iconic chair not only plays on the elegant minimalist of Mies van der Rohe, but has come to represent Radical Design. This internationally known movement emerged from Florence in the late 1960s as a reaction against the predominantly bourgois architectural tendencies of the time. Reference to Mies was something of a throwback. As group member Gilberto Corretti said “Mies was one of the most influential figures for us, we simply had to name this chair after him”.The piece is simultaneously luxurious and essential. With its mirrored surface and strident triangular form, the steel frame perfectly conceals the sitting function of the rubber seat, at least that is until someone decides to sit on it.
